Tips for shrinking your stomach safely

The most common question I face is ” how do i reduce my stomach? Please prescribe a diet”. People fail to understand that what they are trying for is spot reduction which is not possible. Basically if you are developing a paunch, it means you are not eating the right way and not exercising enough. Men gain weight around their abdomen and women initially gain more weight in the hips and thigh regions and then around the stomach.

Here are a few tips to keep the paunch at bay.

  • Do not skip meals- dieters think that skipping meals reduces calories. But it is a form of self starvation and can lead to binging in the next meals. It creates a havoc with your metabolism and will prevent weight loss.
  • Eat small meals frequently- Your stomach shrinks or stretches depending on the size of the meals. If you eat small meals frequently every 2-3 hours, your stomach starts shrinking gradually.
  • Cut the portion size gradually- The larger the size, the more you tend to eat. But if you reduce immediately, your stomach remains empty and can trigger cravings. If you reduce gradually, your stomach adjusts to its new routine slowly and voila you are cutting down calories.
  • Eat slowly- Do not eat in a hurry in a five minute time gap. Eat for atleast 20 minutes as it will trigger the brain to send signals that you are full or you will continue to feel hungry and end up eating more. Thats why you have been given a one hour break for lunch at your work place.
  • Increase your fiber intake- This will give you satiety and feeling of fullness.
  • Drink lots of water- This will help you curb hunger pangs and cravings. It boosts your metabolism too.

Try these tips for flatter stomachs. But do not forget to exercise too.
