HEART ATTACK – A Personal Experience

heart attack

Many people think that a heart Attack is sudden and intense like they show in a movie, where a person clutches his chest and falls down.

I too had the experience of a Heart attack eight months back, symptoms of which started slowly on one fine morning at about 11 a.m in the form of a discomfort in my chest region. I  also had all the symptoms of acidity and burning sensation rising up from abdomen to the chest region ,similar to that of a gastric upset and nausea. Since I knew the symptoms of an impending heart attack from various health magazines ,I did not want to take a chance and delay things at my end in seeing a Doctor.

My family immediately  took  me to the nearby Cardiac Hospital for emergency First-aid and treatment. I had an Heart attack.

In my case, through a process known as Thrombolytic Therapy, the dangerous clot inside the blood vessel was broken up and to perform this treatment, clot dissolving medicines were injected into the blood vessel. The doctors dissolved the clot and I was back to normal in two hours. But I had to  stay for a week in the hospital on observation. I became terribly weak and my weight gradually came down from 58 kgs to 52 kgs due to the restriction in diet etc.

Allowing  the heart to beat as “Lubb-Dubb,Lubb-Dubb,” in a strong, steady and slow manner.  It will then sound to one as “Life-Love,Love-Life”

Back home,  even today I  continue with the medication, special attention to my  diet and daily exercises like walking etc.

Heart problems comes in different forms and to deal with each case, Doctors have different methods. There are about ten vascular treatment and surgeries

For the benefit of the readers, I enumerate below the various symptoms  of a threatening  heart attack/ cardiac arrest, and an easy way to remember any such  symptoms.  This will help one in an emergency as it did in my case.

The symptoms of Heart Attack  are:

A stands  for Angina.  (chest pain).

B    ”     ”  Breathlessness.

C    ”     ”  Chronic fatigue.

D    ”     ”  Dizziness.

E    ”     ”  Edema in ankles and lower legs(For women).

F    ”     ”  Fluttering or rapid heart beats / palpitations

G    ”     ”  Gastric upset,nausea

Finding out if one had a heart attack is the job of the Doctor. He does the following:

1.Blood test to detect abnormal levels of certain enzymes in the blood

2. Takes an ECG to discover any abnormality caused hy damage to the heart

3.Review complete medical history of the patient and

4.Do a physical  examination of the patient.

One can get an indication of the  onset of an heart attack or slow  it down by remembering the above symptoms and taking timely action.  The attacks and strokes can then be prevented or at least postponed to a much older age with the help of a Doctor and lead a good life, allowing  the heartbeat to continue as Lubb-Dubb,Lubb-Dubb, in a strong, steady and slow manner.  The heart beat will then sound to one as Life-Love,Love-Life….
