10 Diet mistakes what we commonly do…

diet_mistakesThere are many mistakes one can make when trying to lose weight. These are the common mistakes many do…

  1. Avoiding carbs- You need to eat enough carbs to sustain enough energy to go through the day. Eat good carbs such as whole grains. If you do not eat enough, you can have very low energy levels and end up having low blood sugars. I see many eating a chicken burger patty leaving out the bread and polishing off the patty. The patty is fried with a lot of fat and is not helping much in cutting down calories.
  2. Zero fat diets- Fats too are an important part of our diets. It is necessary to take good fats like nuts and seeds in our diets. Saturated fats need to be avoided and so also trans fats. These fats generally come from junk food which you strictly need to avoid. So, now you dont need to run away like the plague from fats. They are very much needed for the
  3. Eating more while dining out-Just because you are eating out, does not mean you tuck in as much as you want. The calories do count. Yes, occasional treats are fine. But make smart choices such as fruit salad with a small scoop of ice cream rather than chocolate mousse. Dont hog as there is no tomorrow.
  4. Starving or keeping long gaps– Not eating for long can make you ravenous and this can make you over eat at the next meal. Avoid starving for long periods, otherwise you will pounce on food at its site.
  5. Drinking less water– “Naaah!!! I dont drink water…..” It’s a common line repeated by many of my clients. You need to drink enough water daily for better health and weight loss.
  6. Drinking sugary liquids- Cokes and juices are not a part of your low calorie diets. They can add up additional calories and will never help you lose weight. Fluids such as fruits juices 100% or not, coffee with sugar and full fat milk, soups with cream and corn flour and last but not the least, alcohol. Drink them in moderation and look for healthier options.
  7. Eating at top speed– Eating your meals is not a race unless you are participating in an eating contest. Eat your meals slowly and savour each bite. Take atleast 20 minutes to enjoy your meal. This will help you to slow down and watch what you are eating.
  8. Mindless snacking– Nibbling can add up to a lot of calories. So lock you fingers stop and stop picking tidbits. you never know when they will turn into extra pounds.]
  9. Going on crash diets– Eating less than 1000kcal are not going to help at all. You may see speedy weight loss. But once you increase your intake, you will never know when the pounds will creep back.
  10. Exercise phobia– Most commonly seen phobia, culminating due to laziness and poor time management. The simple formula is to exercise to burn calories and keep flab away.
