If you are the mother of a school going child, you probably know how tiring it can be to prepare a lunch box which your child likes and finished at school everyday. However, Before blaming it all on the child, we need to gain a perspective on the mother-child-Lunch box-school situation.
The child-mother-lunch box relationship.
Most children attend school in the morning and come home for lunch. they usually carry a lunch box for eating during the recess or mid day break, – The time when they would rather play. Most of the times, the Lunch Box is opened only on the bus ride home. The mother, on the other hand, is guided by her understanding of good nutrition when she packs the child’s lunch box.
Research shows that the child sees the Lunch box as the mother’s arena – Something which she stuffs her choices. These are the things that the child usually finds boring, and tends to regard eating from the box as an activity governed by adult rules. Unlike the Pencil box, the child does not feel any sense of ownership towards the Lunch box. To the child the lunch box fulfills a functional but not emotional need.
